7 tips on how to boost your communication skils in Norwegian

Taking the time to improve your communication skills can be highly rewarding. Being able to communicate more effectively will help you to build stronger relationships with the people around you, and get your ideas across successfully. It can be especially difficult to communicate clearly in Norwegian if you have not been learning for very long. So how to boost your communication skils in Norwegian?

  1. Participate in group communication It can be at work, with your friends or at the course.
  2. Ask questions. Listen carefully to the answers. Ask to repeat if necessery. Dont be afraid to say you dont understand.
  3. Slow down when you speak. Don't expect to be able to speak as quickly in a foreign language as you can in your mother tongue. ...
  4. Learn sentences instead of words. One word in Norwegian can have many meanings. When you learn a new word in Norwegian , take a couple of minutes to memorise some sentences that contain it. This way you have ready to go correct utterences that you can use when you need them.
  5. read out loud. Read anything that you read or write in your target language out loud.Don’t be afraid to get silly and try to mimic the accent of a true native while doing this.
  6. Watch movies with subtitles. Make notes of words you dont understand. Pause the film frequently and imitate the speech.
  7. Talk to a native speaker – you dont know anyone? If you live in Norway, that should not be a problem. You can go to any shop and have discussion about sizes, prices, colours etc, go to central station and ask about what time the trains are going etc. you can stop people on the street and ask about time, directions..
